We chose the name Akeman Press because we felt it reflected our interest in history. Akemancester was a Saxon name for Bath. In its turn, that probably derived from the Roman name of Aquae Sulis. That led us on to choosing Minerva’s Head as our logo, as she is the goddess of wisdom – and our aim is to make people wiser about their history.
Some people think that the head is actually of Apollo, the sun god, and if so, that is appropriate too, for we want to cast light on some lesser known aspects of the past.

SUSTAINABILITY.
You will see that our most recent books carry the FSC logo 
which means the paper is made from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. When you see the FSC logo on a label, you can buy forest products (such as the paper in our books) with confidence that you are helping to ensure our forests are alive for generations to come.
In addition, we are making our packaging as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. If you order from our website, all the packaging is recyclable. The envelope which holds your documents is compostable, and we have ceased using plastic packing tape in favour of paper tape.
Booksellers may notice that we often recycle boxes and filling material. Where possible we use paper filling, but if you do find plastic filling, we have recycled it from boxes we have received. The one exception to this is when we fill gaps with polystyrene chips. These give the books good protection and we now use some made from recycled plastic. In future, however, we will be looking at a way of replacing these as well.
